Kya hai? Direct speech kisi ke exact shabd quotes mein dikhata hai; indirect (reported) speech unhe apne shabdon mein batata hai, aksar tense peeche karke.
| English | Matlab (Hindi) |
|---|---|
| Direct: Ravi said, "I will call you." | Ravi ne kaha, "Main tumhe call karunga." |
| Indirect: Ravi said that he would call me. | Ravi ne kaha ki woh mujhe call karega. |
| Indirect question: She asked if I was ready. | Usne poochha ki main taiyaar hoon ya nahi. |
Direct speech kisi ke exact words quotation marks mein deta hai (He said, "I am busy"). Indirect speech unhe report karta hai, aksar tense ek step peeche karke (He said that he was busy).
Reporting verb past mein ho toh: present→past, past→past perfect, will→would, can→could, may→might, have→had.
Question mark hata do, word order statement jaisa karo. Yes/no question mein "if/whether", wh-question mein wh-word use karo: She asked if I was coming / where I lived.
