Learn the patterns behind the chart
One to twelve
Learn these spellings as a starting set. Notice “two” and “twelve”; their spellings do not simply follow the sound you might guess from another language.
Try counting objects, not only reciting words. Put twelve small items on a table, point to each, and say the number. Then remove a few and count again.
Thirteen to nineteen
The “teen” numbers include changes such as three → thirteen and five → fifteen. Eighteen has one “t” at the joining point; it is not written “eightteen.”
Hinglish help: Sirf number dekhkar pehchaanana kaafi nahi hai. Number ko chhupaakar uski spelling likhiye, phir chart se milaaiye.
Tens and units
After twenty, use the tens word followed by the unit:
- 20 + 3 → twenty-three
- 40 + 7 → forty-seven
- 80 + 9 → eighty-nine
Use a hyphen for these compound numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine when a unit follows the tens. Whole tens such as sixty do not need one.
